Strategic Process for Developing Small Business Websites

Bop Design takes a strategic approach to crafting your small business website design.  Our goal is to build a site that will last for four to five years — no small feat in today’s rapidly changing online world.

Here’s our processes for developing websites for small businesses:

  • Ideal Customer Profile: First, we help you develop your ideal customer profile. Who are the clients you want to target? What are their attributes (demographic information, annual revenue, employee numbers, industry sectors, geographic area and values)? For instance if you are a CPA firm, you may be targeting San Diego biotech firms, under 50 employees, that are pre-revenue.  Knowing who your ideal clients are will tell us a lot about your company and its services. And, by building a small business website that you will love, Bop Design will accomplish its primary objective – to bring your ideal clients to you.
  • Unique Value Proposition: Once we’ve created your ideal customer profile, we focus on your company and what makes it special. What makes you different from your competition? Why do your customers decide to work with you? This information helps us to determine the look and feel of your site, as well as the corresponding brand messages that will speak to your customers. For instance, you may be a law firm with a primary focus on business litigation. Your legal team “lives for the courtroom” and excels in litigating intellectual property cases. This core competency needs to be communicated in all marketing communications. Once we know your unique value proposition, we can start designing your website.
  • Web Conception and Design: Based on our initial discussions, we’ll create three unique home page and user interface designs. You pick the concept that you feel best represents your company, and we tweak the colors, photos, navigation, etc. until everything is exactly the way you want it. Once you’re happy with the homepage and user interface design, we move on to the rest of the pages (About Us, Contact Us, Gallery, Blog, etc.).
  • Web Development: Next, we focus on the backend of the site. All Bop Design websites are developed according to the most current web standards, as determined by the World Wide Web Consortium.
  • Website Upload: If your website were a movie, this would be the big premiere. We can even help develop and distribute an announcement to all your current clients, prospects and friends. Popcorn is optional.
  • Website Analytics: Now that your website is live, you’ll want to know who’s viewing it. All our websites include Google Analytics, which tells you who visits your site, what pages they view, and how long they stay on your page. GA also displays where your visitors are located. This is particularly helpful for our local, San Diego Web Design clients as it shows the neighborhoods and locations in the city that creates the most traffic. Ultimately, the most important aspect of Google Analytics is allowing you to see how effective your site is in generating new customer leads.
  • Revisions Made Easy: At Bop Design, most of the small business web sites we design include content management tools that allow you to make site changes on your own. This saves you the time and money you’d spend outsourcing the work and leaves the control of the site where it should be — in your hands.
